The cottage is the spacious former Assistant Managers residence at Arkaba Sheep Station, 20 kilometres beyond Hawker on the main road to Wilpena Pound. It is alongside Arkaba Creek and adjacent to the station homestead, with the towering Elder Range as a backdrop. Guests approach through the Arkaba Station main road entrance, then drive two kilometres to the cottage. The Heysen Trail traverses through the station and guests may like to take a walk along Arkaba Creek and the station's many access tracks. On its western border, Arkaba Station contains the Elder Range and its peak, Mount Aleck. Running through its heart are the ridges of the Red Range. Until recently, most of this magnificent wilderness was out of reach. Now as a four wheel drive adventure, you may enjoy driving your own vehicle or an escorted group tour, through this challenging and exciting country. Rock the Mount at Melrose - a family weekend of action, excitement and entertainment starring Lee Kernaghan and Special Guests. Nestled against the backdrop of the spectacular Mount Remarkable, Melrose becomes centre stage for some of Australia's greatest country music stars. Held annually in April, thousands of people converge on Melrose to 'Rock the Mount'. Musicians, exhibitors, street stalls and food and wine producers all take part in this three-day celebration. The main street of Melrose is the place to be on Friday night with buskers and the Melrose Market Square offering a great Outback atmosphere with plenty to see and do. On Saturday the showgrounds are awash with colour for the judging of the Remarkable Ute Muster accompanied by our talented local country music performers. Australia's best country music artists 'Rock the Mount' at the headline concert on Saturday night. On Sunday morning a recovery breakfast at the Showgrounds and a breath testing unit will ensure all leave the event within the legal limits and ensure their safe journey home. For travellers not ready to say goodbye, the entertainment continues with a Sunday session at the North Star Hotel, or there are plenty of other attractions in and around town.
