Sultanahmet is the oldest and longest inhabited part of contemporary Istanbul. This is the area where the Byzantine capital, Constantinople was located at the southern bank of the Golden Horn and parts of the defence wall of the old city are still remaining along the coast. The most important sites of Istanbul are located in Sultanahmet; Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar and etc.
Eminonu is a former district of Istanbul , now a neighbourhood of Fatih district. This is the heart of the walled city of Constantine, the focus of a history of incredible richness. Eminonu covers roughly the area on which the ancient Byzantium was built. The Galata Bridge crosses the Golden Horn into Eminonü and the mouth of the Bosphorus opens into the Marmara Sea. And up on the hill stands Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia Eminonu has many historical mosques and buildings, many of Istanbul's best-known landmarks.
Golden Horn is considered to be the world’s largest natural harbor. Ideally situated along the shores of the world famous Marmara Sea, Golden Horn presents an unforgettably panoramic and magnificent view of Istanbul.
Fatih is a district in İstanbul that encompasses most of the peninsula coinciding with historic Constantinople. In 2009, the district of Eminönü, formerly a separate municipality located at the tip of the peninsula, was merged into Fatih. Fatih borders the Golden Horn to the north and the Sea of Marmara to the south. This area, which has harbored many civilizations throughout its thousands of years of history, is currently the most significant historical, touristic and commercial center of İstanbul.
The name "Fatih" comes from the Ottoman emperor Fatih Sultan Mehmed (Mehmed the Conqueror), and means "Conqueror" in Turkish. The Fatih Mosque built by Mehmed II is in this district, while his resting place is next to the mosque and is much visited. It was one of the largest examples of Turkish-Islamic architecture in Istanbul and represented an important stage in the development of classic Turkish architecture.
Eyup Sultan is a district on the Golden Horn part of Istanbul. Due to the history and cultural past of it, some of the most important sites of Istanbul are located in Eyup. The neighborhood attracts many tourists with its rich historical beauties.
